10 Mvar STATCOM In Jordan
NEPCO, the state electric company of Jordan, has accepted the 10 Mvar STATCOM device supplied by Jema to guarantee compliance with the grid code of the 24 MW solar power plant.
After undergoing integral tests in the factory at full power, the STATCOM device has also passed the in-situ tests in the Ma’an solar power plant. The tests included integration with the central plant, STATCOM operation at full power and behaviour during voltage gaps (LVRT). STATCOM is a member of the family of flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices that regulate voltage and stabilise the electrical grid. They are being used more and more in solar and wind energy plants in order to meet grid code standards. The STATCOM device supplied by Jemais an MMC type (multi-level modular conversion) that has significant advantages over traditional solutions. Among the advantages are improved efficiency, very low THDi and a smaller footprint. Likewise, because it’s modular, a redundant N +1 per phase configuration is possible, which improves full STATCOM power availability.
Another significant aspect of Jema’s MMC STATCOM is its high overload capacity during voltage dips. Jema’s MMC STATCOM device is completely modular and it’s easy to configure up to 40 Mvar in a 12.2 metre container with a single grid connection transformer. Jema is enlarging its FACTS portfolio in sectors that include electric grids, mining and metals, rail and micro-grids.
With more than 60 years of history, and central offices in Lasarte northern Spain, Jema has a commercial presence in more than 90 countries on 5 continents.Jema provides 24 hour a day bespoke services to clients around the world. The company is part of the Irizar Group, founded in 1889. With 2500 employees and annual billing of 500 million euros, the Group is an industry leader in bus manufacturing, electro-mobility, electronics, communications (ITS solutions) and rotating machinery. In addition, the Group has its own research and development centre, called Creatio, which increases the Group’s capacity for applied research and technological development.
